Matt Zechmann's Story
At age 26, Matt Zechmann started experiencing digestive issues. He saw numerous doctors who misdiagnosed him with acid reflux and GERD. Through a CT scan in December of 2009, a tumor was found in Matt's abdomen.
From there, Matt underwent two surgeries to remove the tumor from his abdomen. Fortunately it was successfully removed by a surgeon at The Mayo Clinic, and Matt was able to recover and continue on with his normal life in the spring of 2010.
Unfortunately, in August of 2011, the doctors found that Matt had a recurrence in his abdomen. Over the past two years, Matt has undergone four chemotherapies without success at shrinking the tumors. If chemotherapy is not effective, Matt is facing a very major surgery with many potential risks. With Matt's positive attitude, the support of so many loving family and friends, and the dedicated medical professionals researching this rare tumor, we are extremely hopeful that a cure will be found.
Who is DTRF and how are the funds used? DTRF is the only organization in the country dedicated to funding desmoid tumor research and finding a cure for this rare disease. DTRF allocated 92% of money raised to fund desmoid tumor research and provide support to patients. A donation is fully tax-deductable.
Your donation can be multiplied if your company has a "Matching Gifts" plan. Please check with your company's human resources to obtain their form for matching gifts. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for any support you can give in the quest for a cure!
