5k RACE LOCATION at SEI Investments in Oaks, PA on the Perkiomen Trail @ 6:30pm! It is time for the twelfth annual Legs for Lindsey 5K Race & Fun Run to be held on Wednesday August 9th, 2017at, SEI Investments 1 Freedom Valley Drive, Oaks, PA 19456. The race and activities will be held in the lower lot at the entrance to the paved Perkiomen Trail. With Sebastian Riding Associates being a focus charity partner with SEI, we are very excited to bring our race to their campus! It has been ten years since the inception of the event that not only commemorates the life of an extraordinary young woman, Lindsey Hanebury, but also benefits a Equine Assisted Learning program where she rode for more than 17 years. Lindsey, born with Down Syndrome in 1984, was all about abilities rather than disabilities. She began hippotherapy at Sebastian Riding Associates (SRA) at the age of two to improve her overall muscle tone and balance. She progressed to therapeutic horseback riding and continued to ride until her diagnosis of Leukemia in September of 2004 at the age of nineteen. Despite her courageous battle with Leukemia, we lost Lindsey just nine days before her 20th birthday. With the dedicated help of dear friends and family, the Legs for Lindsey 5K event has developed quite a following of runners/supporters and has raised more than $45,000 for SRA since its inception in 2005. With these funds, Legs for Lindsey has been able to make an impact on the program with the purchase of Sebastian the miniature horse and cart to begin a driving program; purchase of Chex, a 15.2 hand Dun Quarter Horse gelding; the remodeling of the lounge and has subsidized the difference between what an actual lesson costs SRA and what is charged for more than 600 lessons. SRA is located in Evansburg State Park and has been providing equine assisted therapy for children and adults with a wide range of mental health, physical and intellectual disabilities for almost forty years. There are so many benefits to be achieved through equine assisted learning which include cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth and rehabilitation. Hope to see you at the 12th Annual Legs for Lindsey 5K!!
