This year, the Kimberton Waldorf Scool will be hosting our 6th Annual Farm to School Trail Run & Family Wellness Event, on 10/07/18. Our theme is ‘Sustainability’ and we’ll be emphasizing Non-GMO foods, clean water & air, and healthy soils!! Our school has 420 beautiful ‘green’ acres, and lease 350 protected acres to Seven Stars Farm (yummy organic yogurt) who do not use pesticides or herbicides on the farmlands. We also lease 10 acres to Kimberton CSA who also grows “biodynamic and organic mixed vegetables”, across the street from school. Our school has a two acre enclosed Organic Student Garden (and extensive organic gardening program, including a sun filled learning building and bluebird houses around the gardens). The students make everything from calendula salve, teas, dilly beans, red raspberry jam, brooms from corn, and apple butter wink We are also blessed to have an ‘Exceptional Value’ water source bordering campus “French Creek”, and have created an educational & recreational “French Creek Conservation Trail” for students & school families. We open this breathtaking campus and adventurous trails to the public once a year … for our Annual 5k/10k Trail Runs, 5k Nature Walk, and free Kid’s Fun Run!! At the same time, we hold a popular Wellness Fair in our HS Gym, where we had over 50 sponsors/vendors support our Event last year. Free children’s activities, hot Organic lunch, free post run massages, tons of free healthy snacks, raffles, adoptable animals from All 4 Paws Rescue, and a Mini-Farmer’s Market!! This year, we’ll actually have a live RAPTOR Meet & Greet by the John James Audubon Center, Audubon, PA! In 2016, we co-hosted this annual event with Orion Communities, Phoenixville, PA. They are a 501c3 Non-Profit (so are we), and only a few miles away from our school. Phoenixville borders Kimberton, and a number of our neighbors either volunteer, donate, or apply for assistance with Orion Communities. They provide assistance to families, single adults, and single mothers in need of the most basic assistance; food, clothing, employment, furniture, and social interaction. —This year, we’re striving to continue our engagement of Community Wellness in the spirit of giving and kindness. They will attend the Wellness Event this year, collect food & clothing (please bring whatever items you wish to donate), and together we'll raise awareness for the hungry & homeless in our communities!! We have a school-wide daily compost program, numerous perennial flower gardens, and a vast woodland with many native wildlife and plants. Last year, we sold milkweed seeds to raise awareness & funds to support the plight of the monarch butterfly. Leftover seeds were planted last Fall in our wildflower meadow. We also have friendships with the Green Valley’s Association, and French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust. Previously, we co-hosted a community Nature Appreciation Day with FPCCT, and participated in an Earth Day French Creek Clean-up with GVA! We are beginning to confirm this year’s sponsors/vendors, with a national water company ‘Essentia' donating products, and a local famous podiatrist "Dr. Nick Romansky" from Healthmark Foot & Ankle, who was the Team Podiatrist for the US Women’s Soccer World Cup Gold Winning Team in 2015!! Recently, we confirmed Green Mountain Energy will be supporting our Event with a Major Sponsorship!! Additionally, here are our early supporters: Weleda, Bee’s Wrap (sustainable food storage), Teatulia Organic Teas, Vermont Compost Company, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, United By Blue (in Philadelphia), Kimberton Whole Foods, Naturescapes (in Paoli), Seven Stars Farm, The Protection Bureau, Iron Cross Athletics (in Phoenixville), Seven Stars Inn, Nova Natural Toys & Crafts, Dansko, Badger Balm, Zanfel, The Non-GMO Project, Herr's, Nature's Path Organics, Phoenixville Federal Bank & Trust, Davis Painting, Cynthia Oswald Creative Designs, Snouts and Sprouts, The Wellness Center of Chester County, Blue Buddha Healing Arts, and Moore’s Furniture (in Limerick and Chester Springs). The Ten Air Studios in Phoenixville will be creating the new Top Finisher Awards for F/M 5k/10k Winners!! The motivated scientists from The Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University will attend with Interactive Displays of "bugs, fish, algae, and chemistry"!! Activate Phoenixville Area, Valley Forge Park Alliance, and The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Tree Tenders program will all be at the Wellness fair! The hours of the Event are: 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, rain or shine. Register by noon on 09/27/18 to guaruntee an Event T-shirt. Registration same day is possible, but no guarantee of an Event long-sleeve 100% cotton T-shirt. The Family Wellness Fair w/vendors is free to attend, and hot organic lunch is only $5 for non-registrants. With our best regards, … The Trail Run Committee.
