In 2017, there were 78 deaths by suicide in Delaware County. In 2016, there were 65 deaths by suicide. This is down from 2014 where there were 92 deaths by suicide. Every life lost by suicide is too many. In 2009, there were 78 suicides in Delaware County which was a sharp spike from 60 in 2006. Each of these deaths leaves six to eight seriously bereaved individuals behind. The mission of the Delaware County Suicide Prevention and Awareness Task Force (DCSPATF) is to raise an understanding of suicide as a preventable community health problem. The task force is affiliated with many behavioral health organizations in the county, the county medical society, local hospitals and health systems, our county government, the intermediate unit and many school districts in Delaware County.
