Chatham Park Elementary School will be hosting the 2lst Annual Maniac Magee Run for the Homeless, where all the proceeds are donated to the Norristown Salvation Army Family Emergency Shelter. The shelter relies on our generosity to help provide families a safe living environment. We are recognized as one of the largest annual contributors and in order to continue we need your assistance! We have donated nearly $108,000 in the past 20 years. Please help make this wonderful event a continued success! Maniac Magee is authored by Jerry Spinelli, who grew up in Norristown and later raised his six children in the Chatham Park community. The novel won the Newbery Medal and is a favorite book to many school children. It’s about Jeffery Lionel Magee, nicknamed Maniac Magee, a homeless 11-year-old boy who goes on the run in search for a place to belong. It’s a story about prejudice, love, home, baseball, fear and understanding. This 2 mile run and 1 mile walk through the Chatham Park neighborhood is a great race for new runners and for families looking to walk or run together for a great cause.
