The 3rd Annual William E. Kerr Memorial Flag Day Run/Walk

One of many events of our Flag Day Celebration, this year’s Run/Walk was a resounding success.

Even a light sprinkle at the outset did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants.

The overall Male Runner was 20 year old Nulie McCarthy of Richmond, VA who crossed the finish line in the time of 18’15” followed by Kevin Burrows of Havertown, and, Al Dong of Philadelphia.

The overall Female Runner, Martha Tanner of Upper Darby, PA finished in 24’46.4”, followed by Janet Ariza and Roxana DeJesus: 25’43 and 26’36.7.

Walkers:

In a race that was contested for most of the course, Larry Schiller, 45, of Philadelphia, prevailed and finished with a time of 27’55’, setting a course record. Erik Litt of Philadelphia, the 2003 and 2004 winner finished a strong 28’23” followed by Bill May of Yeadon.

Kudos: for Mary Jacobs of Yeadon, winner in 2003 and 2004, for her age graded first place finish.

Our poster competitor of the day, however, was 85 year old Pete D’Ambrosio of Yeadon, who with a time of 50’44, bettered His 2003 walk by 2 minutes (an inspiration to all of us).

Thanks go out to Yeadon Flag Day Chairperson, Maxine Veasley, Dave Young, Robert Wright and his Yeadon Track Team. All of the committee members, volunteers, police, fire, town watch and public works Personnel, and our Sponsors.

Tim Krueger and his Run The Day management crew, and all the runners and walkers did a great job, making our event the most enjoyable and best managed yet.

Many thanks for the vivid and creative photographs taken by Lynn Dickerson of Philadelphia, as well as the candid pictures taken by our volunteers who captured the spirit of the day.

Bring on 2006!

Bill May
